$52,247.13 raised in the Thomas Sill Foundation Challenge
The Thomas Sill Foundation Challenge!
The Thompson Community Foundation was presented with a generous and exciting offer in 2015!
The Thomas Sill Foundation of Winnipeg issued a challenge grant that matched at a rate of 1:2 to a maximum of $25,000 for every dollar raised locally over 2015/2016. That means we could leverage this amount if as a community we raised $50,000. We believed that with an enthusiastic response like in past challenges, Thompsonites can make it happen! And it did!
The Thomas Sill Foundation has been a driving force in the formation and support of the community foundation movement in our province, and they are always stepping up to encourage us to continue to grow our endowment fund.
We know the Thompson Community Foundation is important to you and we thank you most sincerely for your past contributions. We would like to thank everyone who made a donation and took full advantage of this generous offer from the Thomas Sill Foundation.

Background of Thomas Sill (1905-1986)
Born in Winnipeg in 1905, Thomas Sill overcame childhood adversity to became a successful chartered accountant whose firm eventually established offices in communities throughout Manitoba. Colleagues, friends and family knew him to be a keen curler and shrewd stock market investor. A quiet, life-long bachelor, Sill made donations to many charitable organizations with which he worked, usually without fanfare or public recognition. Following his death in 1986, executors were instructed to create an entity to carry on his legacy. The Thomas Sill Foundation has since become one of Manitoba’s largest private charitable foundations.
